Lay Down Your Sword

Lay down your sword with me,
Said the one I love.

You have battled so hard to not love me,
But you have failed with each attempt.

Society makes you feel that to love me
Is wrong and a crime.

But with each raising of the sword to fight me,
You have found you only wound yourself.

Lay down your sword with me.
Love is love, let your heart be.

What is this spell your love has cast upon me?
I asked the one I love.

I can’t have you, so it hurts to love you so.
I have lifted my sword to sever my heart from the pain.

With time I always heal,
but then you enter my dreams again.

And my heart reveals the deepest truth,
That I can’t stop loving you.

Again, I allow my heart to beat
And love you, but again your absence pains me.

So, once more I lift up my sword to
Sever you from me.

Lay down your sword with me,
The one I love tells me once more.

Don’t put conditions on our love.
My presence is a condition you choose not to allow.

I respect your choice.
Respect your choice too, and let your heart be.

Lay down your sword with me,
And just love me, as I love you.

When you have experienced loving with no conditions,
Then it is, you will remember...

That this absence from each other
Is illusive and temporary.

In the end we will be together,
So lay down your sword with me.

And let your heart be,
Just love me.
